Why do you think that it is important to blog?
For reflection, for collaboration, enhancing writing for dialogue, for showing off? Writing for a global audience - will students own their work because it is now on the web? A blog has digital longevity - it will last longer than a piece of paper!
I'm playing with Blogger as I write - I started blogs with my MYP Year 3 in the last Trimester and allowed them to evaluate the plethora of tools that are available - Weebly, WordPress et al! Many adopted Weebly (and I shared this blog with them as an example!)
When we evaluated, the irony was that Blogger was blocked by our school firewall. Therefore, my students did not elect to wrestle with that particular issue. I learned, by talking to the Instructional Technology Coach for the Primary School that our current 5th Grade had just started using Blogger as their method for recording work in the digital portfolios. Happy accident in terms of a conversation but it highlighted a reflection that our current school climate is one of isolation rather than collaboration. These kind of innovations are not shared authentically - I wonder how we change that culture? Should I blog about it? :-)
This post is my first post on blogger - you can see it by clicking here! Got to love the selfie, right?
