Fun times on Sunday morning in the Stephenson household! What do you get when you cross a Geography teacher (who did a one hour professional development using learn.code.org) and a seasoned software consultant at the breakfast table with a pot of coffee? You get a morning filled with squashing green pigs and zombies eating plants with a learning cognitive outcome of strategic thinking! Application in class will be (for this year) simply an introduction, but the school is thinking that next year the hour of code will take place across classrooms on a more formalized basis and perhaps even part of the Technology Strategic Plan. Dangerous thinking ahead :-)

We did the same thing this year and added in the hour of code challenge. It is my hope that coding is brought in on a very different scale and not just during the hour of code challenge week. I had a kindergarten teacher try it out with her students, and they loved it! What a great way for students to engaged in problem solving using technology and have fun at the same time!
