I have just discovered how jolly expensive text books are! The required reading for ITEC 7400 is described as the technologists handbook...and with an investment over 100 bucks it should be! However, tip to the wise. I have the most fabulous media center at my school. We like to call it the Learning Commons, really , as it is a common area in the school for all to learn. I love my Librarians. They are just the most welcoming, accommodating. I honestly think they have superpowers! However, the neatest thing about our media center is our inter-library loan system. One email to our superheroes in the media center and wham, bam, thank you ma'am - the book is winging it's way to me for free for the semester. If I love - then I will buy! But a great way of getting texts if you are on a budget or you want to make sure that this is an addition to your library that you want to invest in. With text books changing so rapidly these days (I should know - I teach Geography - the text book changes minute by minute!) it's good to see upfront what your buck goes into.
I am also about to learn how to learn on the road. This blog will link to another blog for "The Northern Exposure Tour 2013" where I take my very Irish parents, Craig and Sylvia, on the road for 12 days in New York State and Canada. There will be pictures, no doubt stories and I am using my parents as guinea pigs for my "Silver Surfer" learning ideas. They are both officially in their 70's but both are using technology more and more. My arthritic mother has gotten very good with her Kindle Fire and my Dad is a wizard with his laptop. However, as more and more technology baffles them in everyday life, I want to really hone their communication skills. We get to hang out like this only once a year - the power of technology will allow us to hang out more remotely with the Atlantic Ocean as a the only barrier.
Check out their itinerary by clicking The Northern Exposure Tour link here - it is my second Weebly Site to date...I may have to purchase access to make more in the long run...but I saved a bundle on the text book so that might be doable! :-)
