There's a song in the charts at the moment - Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran.
"Maybe it's all part of a plan,
Well, I'll just keep on making the same mistakes
Hoping that you'll understand"
Ed Sheeran, Thinking Out Loud
It's been playing in my head over the last few days. It's possibly because I'm trying to tie up loose ends - finish projects and manage change. So much change! The end of an eight year career at one school - the beginning of a new career at another - as yet to be decided in location and role. Completing reflections on work done over the last eighteen months and the transformation that has taken place in this forty-something teacher. As Ed says, continuing to making the same mistakes!
Of course, I keep thinking, what's the difference between a mistake and a plan. I'd planned this - completing a Master's Degree in Instructional Technology. I've planned all the work and completed according to the syllabus laid out. I've revised, reviewed and recreated. And here I am, weeks away from graduation and what if the plan was a mistake - but it's a mistake that works out to be the best way forward. We tell our students all the time to learn from their mistakes - but as adults do we? Leaving my current role might well be a mistake - but to this point, all of the mistakes I've made in my life to date have really conjured up a fundamentally interesting and amazing life plan to date.
I'd like to thank Ed Sheeran for this random blog post. He managed to get another song out of my head that had been playing for many months - the completely addictive "Let it Go" from the Movie "Frozen". Thank goodness that's out of my head - but I will hang onto the sentiment.
